Not only is it important that a horse has a healthy diet but is also very important that they are kept well groomed. If you read about the grooming of a horse many people will suggest that you groom your horse every day, this is the idealistic view and in the majority of cases it just isn't reachable. Therefore if you can managed to groom your horse at least 3 to 5 times a week then this should be more than enough. However there it is vital that you groom your horse before you or anyone else chooses to ride it, this is so important because by grooming them it removes any dirt or other material that maybe lurking in their coats. This is an important thing to do as by grooming them and removing these from their coat they are less likely to suffer any rubbing into their skin. For example when you ride a horse you rub again their skin and so if dirt is constantly rubbing on their skin they are likely to suffer from infections. It is important that you take note every time you do groom your horse as this is the ideal time to keep check of their bodies, for example if they have any injuries you weren't aware of, the grooming processes is normally the best way of noticing these.

There are a number of basic tips that are simple and easy to follow, these are all you will need to ensure that your horse is groomed in the best possible way. To start with you should use a curry comb, these are round based combs that tend to be made out of plastic and have short teeth, these combs are the best for loosening any dirt that might be in their coat or loosen any knots in their coat. As well as this the comb is also great to use as they stimulate the horses skin which helps their skin to produce its own natural oils which protect them. A body brush should also be used this is a soft bristled brush that gets out the fine bits of dirt and dust out of their coats. A dandy brush should also be in your collection of grooming tools as these stiff bristled brushes follow the curry combs and get rid of the dirt that has been loosened up by the curry comb.

It is also advised that as well as this you should also buy a grooming towel as these are also handy to use whenever. Another useful tool to have is a sweat scraper or they are also known as water scrapers these are either metal or plastic and are used to get rid of any water that might be in the horses coat. When it comes to cutting a horses coat it is advised that you use electric clippers, this is due to the fact that they are easier to reach the harder areas. The more difficult areas to reach are the areas behind ears.
