The overall care of your horse needs to be constantly kept up, taking note of the shape that they are in is extremely important. An important area that might sometimes forgot about is a horses hooves. It is really important that they are repeatedly cleaned, this is done by getting a hooves picker. These pickers are used to remove any stones, dirt and mud that can get stuck inside the horses hooves, as well as this you should also check that their hooves are still in good condition and working correctly.

As well as making sure a horses hooves don't have dirt in them it is also important that you make sure their feet are constantly kept dry and as clean as possible at all times. This is really important as it means that you will reduce the likelihood of your horse getting any hoof diseases such as hoof fungus as well as suffering from lameness. It is advised that every time you ride your horse you should clean their hooves afterwards. If you go for a while without riding your horse it is still very important that your clean their hooves because they will still be moving about lots, it will often be advised that you clean them on a daily basis, but obviously this is something that just is not going to be possible for everyone, so you should at least make sure that you do a weekly cleaning and check up on their hooves. You will however find that this is fine when the weather conditions are good, however when the weather is poor you should try at do it a couple of times a week at the least.

On the whole you will find that your horses hooves are healthy and that they won't suffer from any problems with them, which is great. However if you do find that your horse suffers from any hoof problems you are able to get a number of horse dressing to help protect them, or you are also able to get hoof oils which will help them too. It is extremely important that you only use dressings and oils when they are needed and that they are used correctly, because although they can be extremely helpful to a horse they can also create problems for them if they aren't used properly, and this is something you do not want to happen.

As well as you checking up on your horses hooves it is also required for a farrier, a horse specialist, to check over their hooves every 7 to 8 weeks, this is something that will vary from horse to horse but it has to be kept as part of their routine. This is really important for them because a horses hooves do constantly change, for example they grow at different speeds throughout the year, for example during the spring time they grow much more than they do during the winter or summer months. The climate that you live in also effects how a horses hooves will grow, for example if you live in a dry climate their hooves are less likely to grow. Therefore having a specialist look at your horse around every 8 weeks is particular important as they will spot any differences or problems that needed looking at.
