Horses have been around in our society for well over 50 million years, however when they were first in the society they were slight different from the animals that we know today, for start they were originally a multi-toed animal, however this is something that have changed over time as we now know they as a single toed animal. Horses are now an animal that are loved by a lot of people and therefore a number of them are kept on farms or even as pets, and housed in stables. Horse riding has become a hobby that is loved by lots of people, both adults and children, and so the popularity of horses has increased massively.
It is therefore extremely important that horses are cared for and looked after to the highest possible standards. It is really important that you take care of your horse particularly if you are keeping your horse for riding purposes. It is also important for you to also know the difference between horses, for example a horse will require a different kind of care than a pony would, therefore learning about your type of horse is massively important. Knowing everything about a horse from its feeding to housing to its overall living requirements is essential in providing them with a health and long life.
People might be quick to assume that a horse can live outside constantly, however this isn t the case. During both the summer and winter months it is extremely important that they have a shelter in which they can excess at any time they wish. During the summer they will use the shelter as a means of shade out of the sun and during the winter they will use it as a means of getting out of the poor weather conditions. It is also advised that during the night a horse is kept in a stables, not only will this ensure their safety much more but it also provides them with protection from any weather conditions. It is also important for them to constantly have excess to food during the day and during the night, as they are an animal who like to constant be able to eat as and when they need or want too.
During the winter months it is also sometimes advised that some horses might need a horse blanket to keep them warm. This might be due to the fact that if your put your horse in horse shows then you are likely to cut or trim their coats, this therefore means they aren t going to be warm enough in the winter. However on the whole horses coats tend to grow much thicker in the winter, as a natural means of keeping them warm, and so if you don t alter this they should be fine.
Horses are a herd animal, this means that they are really good around other horses, you will actually find that this makes them much happier too. Therefore if you can keep them around other horses it is advised.
